Hemstitching Class
FOR CONFIRMED PAID ATTENDEES OF STITCH AWAY ONLY.
Please read all instructions! There is a small amount of pre-work to be done before class!
Hemstitching originated in Europe during the Renaissance as a refined hand-sewing technique developed to produce decorative openwork. As its name suggests, hemstitching was traditionally used to finish hems, serving both a functional and ornamental purpose.
In this class, you will count threads and learn how to extract the threads and weave them back into the fabric. You will learn the basic hemstitch which will help you master the other three stitches that will be taught: ladder, zigzag and twisted bars.
Once you have the threads counted you will know where to put the cross stitch, which you can do after class.
Prior to StitchAway, you will receive:
- Instructions for the basting (also linked below)
- Linen & basting thread
You will need to bring to class:
- Your pre-basted fabric (instructions can be found here)
- VERY pointed embroidery scissors
- 7 or 7-1/2” hoop to fit the fabric (Qsnaps are too bulky)
- Light and magnifier, if you use them to stitch.
Class items can be picked up at Keepsakes or can be shipped to you.
Limit 15 stitchers per class.
